Lovely birthday day out at Fountains Abbey. The weather wasn’t brilliant, but the scenery was still impressive.

Lovely birthday day out at Fountains Abbey. The weather wasn’t brilliant, but the scenery was still impressive.

Visited a nature reserve today, run by the local water authority. Several large reservoirs & lakes, with hides dotted around. Saw lots of birds, most of which were difficult to photograph, unfortunately. Did capture this striking-looking fungus, however.

Positive thoughts, day 8: a lovely day out at the Washington (UK) Wetlands Centre, with my best friend. They had a Lego exhibition, with giant animals & birds dotted around the area.

Positive thoughts, day 7: a relaxing afternoon spent sketching some crown imperial fritillaries. I really am no artist, but I think they are recognisable.

Positive thoughts, day 6: home-made sloe gin. No other words needed.
Positive thoughts, day 5: spent quite some time dog-sitting today, which mostly entailed providing a comfy lap for this little one.

Positive thoughts: day 4. OK, I missed yesterday. In my defence, although it was a pleasant day, it was also my late Mum’s birthday, so a little sad. I did manage a trip to a garden centre with friends, and had a cheese scone. Funnily enough, I did the same today, with a sneaky caramel slice added in.
Positive thoughts: day 3. A tiring, but fun afternoon and evening at Lodge, seeing a friend take the chair for the first time.
Positive thoughts day 2: Lovely walk in the forest this morning. Sunshine & everything that little bit more green than it was at the weekend.

Lunch with good friends. A most delicious risotto di mari consumed at a superb local Italian restaurant, which is within walking distance, so wine was also imbibed. Good food, great company, a definite positive to the day.
